TEA: Transgender Empowerment of America by Amiyah Scott
TEA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower and improve the conditions of the transgender community so that equity and acceptance can be reached globally.
Founded by actress and author Amiyah Scott, TEA will be offering medical services, social and emotional needs, and financial support for members of the trans community. TEA is a proud partner of GLAAD, the dynamic LGBTQ media force that fights to shape the public narrative and provoke positive cultural change.
Founder Amiyah Scott is an actress, model, and author, best known for her role as Cotton on Lee Daniel’s Star on Fox. With this role, Amiyah broke history as the first trans woman of color to play a transgender character on a major network television series. Amiyah struggled with bullying and acceptance throughout her life, she never let that deter her drive, ambition, or goals. VH1 crowned her king, reporting that Amiyah “was the first transgender model to amass a large social media following on Instagram.”
Amiyah is a proud advocate of the LGBTQ community and has centered her focus on giving a voice to transgender females. Amiyah hopes to inspire the LGBTQ community as well as anyone out there who has a dream. She hopes that her story will motivate others to go after what they desire most, regardless of adversity.
Her debut book Memoirs of a Mermaid, released in 2019, is a moving collection of memoirs where Amiyah bares all and dives into her quest for love, success, acceptance, equality, and womanhood. A portion of all proceeds from Memoirs of a Mermaid will go directly to TEA.
